My son’s girlfriend came to stay with us for a few days. Other than that we actually had a rather lowkey week here. The weather has been beautiful and I’ve been taking advantage of my summer almost being over by sitting the backyard reading and soaking up the sunshine and fresh air! Of course it rained on Friday, booooo!!

I celebrated my birthday yesterday by being in the backyard all day, playing board games with my husband and son. Then I was in the mood for pizza from our favorite local place so my husband ran to pick it up. Then we had brownie sundaes for dessert. It was actually a perfect day!

I borrowed Sunburned by Katherine Wood from my library. It’s a NetGalley backlog book, and I am trying to keep the summer season alive, so why not listen to one last summery book! Hoping to be done with this one at the start of September.

I borrowed The Cuckoo’s Calling from the library. Not sure why I am always slow when reading physical books but it just feels like I’ve been reading this one pretty slow. I’m enjoying this story a lot and plan to make it a priority this upcoming week!

I spent all week getting everything set and ready for my daughter going back to college. Yesterday we dropped her off at her dorm and helped her set up the place. I pray she has a great school year!

If you know Delaney you know if she’s not out living life, she’s in bed reaxing!

The kids and I made a spur of the moment trip to the boardwalk on Wednesday night, just to get out and get some fresh air and sunshine. We love spending time at OCNJ!

I randomly started The Last Morning on my Kindle (a First Reads backlog). I forgot what the premise of the book is so I am flying blind.

I am halfway through One Of The Family. Should be done with this one early in the week.

I borrowed The Cuckoo’s Calling from the library. I made some progress this past week, but not too much, since I’ve been so busy. I’m enjoying this story a lot and hope to have more time this upcoming week to put a big dent in this one.

My parents were up visiting for a long weekend. They arrived last Thursday and left on Tuesday morning. It’s been a revolving door around here as my sister and her family just left from visiting us the week before. We went to the boardwalk with them while they were here and we had such a blast! ZERO PHOTOS WERE TAKEN :(

I have a best friend who lived halfway across the planet from me (we never met before), but just moved to the USA this past spring. We haven’t chatted on the phone in awhile so we made plans to do just that on Thursday night. It was nice to catch up!

ChatGPT is… weird.

My daughter will be going back to college next weekend. We have been going through her stuff she brought home from the dorm, washing all her sheets and things, and getting her all set to head back.

I am still reading a book I received for free titled The Rich’s Guy Wife on my Kindle. I technically put this down to read a quick novella and then picked it back up again.

I am still listening to The Shadow of What Was Lost. It’s a long book but I am making great progress on it despite it being busy, busy, busy around here.

I borrowed The Cuckoo’s Calling from the library. I also made significant progress on this one this past week. I’m enjoying this story a lot and both main characters are growing on me.

My parents are up visiting for a long weekend. They arrived on Thursday and will be leaving on Tuesday. It’s been a revolving door around here as my sister and her family just left from visiting us. I can’t wait for it to be F-Troop back to normal around here.

Have I taken any photos since my parents arrived? Of course not! I’m so bad at that. I like to just live in the moment and enjoy life!

I am reading a book I received for free titled The Rich’s Guy Wife. I needed a book with blood on the cover for HRCYED 3.0 and this is the first one I found on my TBR list.

I am listening to The Shadow of What Was Lost. I started reading it at the beginning of the year, and about a little more than a quarter of the way through I was getting confused on some plot stuff. Then the book was due back to the library and I returned it unfinished. The Audiobook became available on Libby and I borrowed it.

I borrowed The Cuckoo’s Calling from the library.

Currently up to date with the current season of House of the Dragon. The last episode of this season airs tonight!

My sister and her family were visiting us this past week, so they could attend my son’s graduation party. And even though she moved away to NC deep down she misses NJ… so she likes to give her kids a NJ summer by going to the boardwalk, mini golfing, the beach… stuff they don’t have close by them.

The kids also had Vacation Bible School this week. They attended when they were children and now they volunteer there. VBS is a week long children’s ministry program our church hosts, like a summer camp for Christians.

We also went to my NJ in laws house yesterday. My father in law has a boat as he lives on a lagoon, and he took us out on two boat rides out in the bay. It was Rollo’s first boat ride and he LOVED it!

I am reading a NetGalley ARC titled Old Ham. It’s a novella so I am hoping to get through it rather quickly and get a book under my belt early in to the month.

I am listening to a Libby audiobooks, Hunting Fiends for the Ill-Equipped, the third book in the The Guild Codex: Demonized series. I am enjoying this read-along so much!

I am reading You Killed Me First, a paperback I was gifted. I barely had time to read it last week so it’s definitely a priority.

Currently up to date with the current season of House of the Dragon.

My NJ in-laws (I have two sets) were gracious enough to offer up their house to host our son’s college graduation party, which happened yesterday. My sister and her family came up from NC so they could attend the party… and have a week of “Jersey Summer” as she likes to call it (since we grew up here and her children didn’t she likes to come in the summertime and take them to the beach and boardwalk… summery things they don’t have down south lol).

The week was spent getting everything ready for the party and having house guests staying with us.

I can’t believe that July is practically over…. which means that summer is kinda almost over. Not cool!

I am reading a NetGalley ARC titled Do You See What I See?: A Novella. This was a Christmas in July plan but didn’t get a chance to get to it until now. Should be finished with it in the next day or two.

I chose Silent Victim back in 2018 as a First Reads choice, but never got around to reading it after all these years. I am doing really good with clearing out my e-reader (the COYER challenge) so I randomly decided to read this one. This one should be finished come Monday.

I am reading You Killed Me First, a paperback I was gifted.

This is an older show, and I am sure I’ve seen some of it before… but it popped up on my TikTok page last week and I decided to watch. I am halfway done with season 2.

I got sucked back in to Dreamlight Valley and I played for a few days this week. I have a ton of quests I have to complete, and a bunch of realms to open up. Cozy game my butt cheeks, haha!

“Canadian wildfire smoke” covered New Jersey in the middle of the week and I refused to be outside breathing in all that crap. So we stayed inside and did a whole bunch of nothing. Then we had two nasty rain storms with up to 80 mile an hour winds one of the days, so we were practically inside all week. BUMMER!!!!!!

I am reading an older Amazon First Reads choice that I never got around to reading called White Out. I am using it as for two HRCYED 3.0 prompts as well. This one should be done by the middle of the week!

I have the ARC of Dear Debbie, but had also thrown myself on the waitlist with Libby for the audiobook. The hold came in so I borrowed it. I am enjoying it more than I thought I would (since I am on the fence with McFadden books), and am about 40% of the way through.

I am not too far in to The Pallbearers Club, a book I borrowed from a friend. It’s a different style of writing and not my usual genre, so I am taking my time with it to really give it a chance.

I can’t stand Argentina so I am rooting for Spain. My son’s girlfriend is also half Spanish so he is supporting her team too, lol!

Nothing too exciting happened in my neck of the woods. My son’s girlfriend came to visit for most of the week. The weather was mostly yuck out- warm, muggy, and rainy. I did not get a whole lot of reading in either – it’s sort of a slump and life things going on.

This photo was from their graduation day in May.

I am trying to figure out other types of posts I can share on my blog. Lately I feel like I keep sharing the same stuff (WWW Wednesdays, Salon Sundays, Monthly Wrap Up, Library Savings, Books Acquired, and obviously reviews) and it just feels stale to me. If you’d like to share any ideas I am all ears.

I am reading an older Amazon First Reads choice that I never got around to reading called White Out. I am using it as for two HRCYED 3.0 prompts as well.

I am listening to an ALC of Three Reasons For Revenge. It takes place in Australia and the author lives there, so one for The Laws of Five challenge.

I am about to start The Pallbearers Club, a book I borrowed from a friend.

I’ve watched almost every single match of the World Cup this year. What am I going to do once the tournament is over? Probably get back in to reading, lol!!!

Since I am off of work all summer, I get housework done in the morning and then have the rest of the day to do whatever I please. In the afternoon I would eat lunch, then sit in the backyard and read &/or watch World Cup games.

It’s been straight up BRUTAL outside for most of the week- this nasty heatwave is something else! Lots of staying cool indoors with the AC blasting!!

I switched it up and am reading a historical fantasy called Queen of Shadow. I am not that far into it at this point, but thought I needed a break from all the thrillers… and this ARC publishes in August so why not get a jump on it, lol. P.C. Cast is also a new to me author and I am really attracted to this cover art.

I just started listening to Three Reasons For Revenge by Dervla McTiernan. New to me author and I am excited to get into this one.

I am reading a physical book on my shelf called Sail by James Patterson. It’s an older title that I maaaayyyyyy of read before, but it’s been so long that it feels like it’s new to me. I also prefer James Patterson’s older books over his new ones lately so why not read it, lol.

I’ve watched almost every single match of the World Cup this year. Germany lost in penalty kicks, and it was such an atrocious loss. And I was rooting for Cape Verde to win, but that also didn’t happen. Lots of PKs to determine who moves on to the next round, which just feels… eh, to me.

I was dog-sitting my friends dog (his breed is a Shipoo) and he was with us for most of the week, just hanging out at the house and in the backyard.

And we went to a concert for our family’s favorite band, The Head and The Heart, on Friday night.

I am making good progress in Dungeon Crawler Carl (a hardcover book I am borrowed). I am hoping to be finished with this one by the end of the month.

My daughter celebrated her 19th birthday at the beginning of the week! And I’ve been pretty much getting any housework done in the early morning, then going into the backyard to watch the World Cup games and reading at commercial breaks, half time and in between matches. The weather has been in the mid 70s most of this week so I wanted to spend every second I could outdoors.

Today is Father’s Day here in the USA. My husband has decided that he wants to spend it in the pool, watching World Cup games and barbecuing dinner later tonight. Low key and I am here for it!

I am listening to Heather by Caitlin Mullen. Definitely a slow burn mystery. Celadon sent me the widget so I am trying to finish the book before it publishes. I’m 34% into the audiobook.

I also started The Kind Worth Killing (a paperback I own). I read it a bunch by the pool. I’m 25% through it according to Storygraph.

It’s been a freakin week!!!!!! Monday my husband had a work dinner meeting so I got some housework done and then watched some TV. Tuesday my husband had a soccer board meeting after dinner and I pretty much went to bed right after he walked out the door. Wednesday my daughter came home from college for the summer and we went out to dinner after unloading all of her stuff. Thursday my parents came up to visit for the weekend as my son is graduating from college. Friday my daughter and I went shopping to look for clothes for the graduation (nothing like last minute running around because I can’t find a dress I am happy with). And I worked all week.
Saturday was spent at the salon getting beautiful (I never spend money / do anything for myself but I decided it was time) and spending time with my family the rest of the day. Today is church, getting the dog situated with the sitter and heading to the hotel. Tomorrow is my boy’s college graduation!

Reading one hundred percent look a backseat this week. I sometimes didn’t even have the energy to read or even listen to a book, which is unlike me.

With that being said, I am reading The Night Collector on my Kindle. Book three comes out in June (that I have a ARC for) so I am trying to make this one a priority so I can get to the next book. Currently at 64%.

I am halfway through Pines, a series I’ve been wanting to read for awhile now. I’m a Blake Crouch fan. I may of seen this TV show when it came out because it’s feeling familiar… which is actually making me not want to finish the book. IS that weird?

I also started The Kind Worth Killing, a paperback I personally own. The first four chapters were really good! I may hold this one until later in the month when I am on vacation, but I haven’t decided if that’s gonna be the official plan yet.

I am also listening to It’s Not Her by Mary Kubica. My Libby hold came in and I accepted it instead of suspending it. I have so many books on suspend with Libby because I am not ready for them when it’s my turn, lol! This one is getting realllllllly good!!!

Randomly decided to watch this show because Netflix suggested it to me. They must know I like Matthew Goode! Episode 1 was pretty good- that’s as far as I’ve gotten.

Celadon Readers Program sent me a widget for Heather by Caitlin Mullen through NetGalley.

A rep for Little, Brown and Company sent me a widget of The Country Road Murders through NetGalley.

James Patterson Street Team sent me a hardcover copy of 26 Beauties.

Work and a whole lot of nothing else. My husband worked late most nights this week so I was just home with the dog, doing a whole bunch of nothing exciting.

Today is Mother’s Day! This is the FIRST time since I’ve been a mother that none of the kids are physically with me celebrating. I plan to spend the day with my husband and Rollo, and go for a hike since the weather is supposed to be in the mid 70s!
If you consider yourself a mother in any capacity, Happy Mother’s Day to you!!!!!!

The Sunday Salon / The Sunday Post #41

What is the Sunday Salon? The Sunday Salon is a place to link up and share what we have been doing during the week. It’s also a great opportunity to visit other blogs and join in the conversations going on there. Hosted by Readerbuzz.

What is the Sunday Post? The Sunday Post is a blog news meme hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on your blog for the week ahead. New month… and a busy one at that. My son is graduating college in a little more than two weeks! And then we are planning a big family vacation at the end of the month to celebrate. I have a TON to do in order to be ready for both big events, so of course I am stressing already! One day at a time I suppose.

Also, I had my personal Facebook page for almost a year (remember how Meta said I was not a real person after having a Facebook page since 2012 and deleted my page, along with all my family memories?). I decided to make a Facebook page for my blog and attached it to my personal page. And I linked my Instagram to it as well. Lets see if Meta lets me have them all, or deletes all my social media pages on me like they did last year.

This is my Facebook page, if you’d like to follow me.

I barely started Run On Red by Noelle W. Ihli. The first chapter really drew me in, but I am not surprised as the other Ihli book I read was soooooooooo good.

Since I am trying to keep up with series books, I am reading book 2 of Arlington Hall, titled The Surrender. I am a little more than halfway done with this one.

And I will be finished with The Alchemist and An Amaretto by Annette Marie on Monday. I had a ton of time to listen while I cleaned my house yesterday.

I am almost done with this season of Detective Hole. And wow wow wow! I am also watching it in it’s original Swedish (with subtitles) as when the voices don’t match up to the lips I can’t focus on anything else.

I totally have not been on my laptop working on my blog, or social media at all this week. I’ve been actively reading A LOT (for me)!

My daughter came home from college this weekend. Her freshman year is almost over already, which is nuts!

My husband has been feeling under the weather all this week. He finally went to the walk in the other day and it turns out… he has a cold. He gets like a super huge baby when he’s sick so I’ve been taking care of him all this weekend, bringing him food in bed, giving him hot tea to drink and letting him rest. But now I’m starting to feel run down – lovely.

I am reading The Undoing of Alejandro Velasco by Diego Boneta. It’s an Amazon First Reads backlog book. It’s definitely a slow burn mystery so right now I think it’s just alright. I’m about halfway done with the eBook.

I just started Run On Red by Noelle W. Ihli. The first chapter really drew me in, but I am not surprised as the other Ihli book I read was soooooooooo good.

And since I think I need a break from thrillers (I read so many this month) I also started The Invitation by Jodi Ellen Malpas, another Amazon First Reads backlog book.

I stopped using Goodreads and refuse to go back.

Still in my Joel Kinnaman phase, I watched the first episode of Detective Hole. And wow wow wow! I am also watching it in it’s original Swedish (with subtitles) as when the voices don’t match up to the lips I can’t focus on anything else.

The only thing of note is that my husband won free concert tickets on the radio and we went to go see Patrick Mayberry, Seph Schlueter and Crowder at the NJPAC in Newark, NJ. And the seats were fantastic- we were in the third row!!!!

The weather this week has been HOT during the day and GORGEUS at night. After work I’ve been sitting in the yard and trying to get my skin used to the sunlight again (so I don’t burn this summer lol). The dog has been loving being able to run around in the yard. Sunshine really does wonders for my soul!

Also, I need to catch up with everyone and I’m so sorry I’ve been super distant in the blogosphere. I have mostly just been avoiding being online for relaxing and reading time.

I am listening to The Launch Party by Lauren Forry, an Edelweiss ARC I received in 2024 and hadn’t gotten around to reading it via Kindle. It’s a slow paced mystery set on the moon. It’s not holding my attention at the moment so I have been barely listening.

I am reading Yours Always by Corinne Sullivan on my Kindle. I’m into the story and hope to have it done in the next day or so.

For no reason I am rewatching Altered Carbon. Joel Kinneman just does it for me, what can I say?

I did not post a Sunday Salon last week because my mother was in the hospital from March 30 until April 8, after her routine procedure did not go according to plan. My family is in North Carolina and I am in New Jersey, so I had only been getting text and phone call updates about her condition. It had been so hard being a million miles away from them during this rough time! She is currently home and doing well, thank God!

Easter Sunday was last week! The kids were home to celebrate the holiday with my husband and I. We did our traditional things like going to church in the morning, followed by watching a Sight & Sound DVD of Jesus. Then a nice relaxing dinner and we always play a board game after.

Of course, once we came home from church everyone changed into comfy clothes and we did not take one family photo. What a fail!

Also, I need to catch up with everyone and I’m so sorry I’ve been super distant in the blogosphere. I have mostly just been avoiding socials and being online for relaxing and reading time… and some video game time as well lol.

I am listening to Hellbound Guilds & Other Misdirections via Libby. It should be finished later today. I am reading Yours Always by Corinne Sullivan on my Kindle. So far it’s just alright but I’m only like 10% in. And still slowly getting through The Gone World by Tom Sweterlitsch. The heavy sci-fi aspects were intriguing at first, but starting to lose me as the story is progressing.

We just finished season 4 yesterday.
