The kids were home this past weekend. We put up the Christmas tree and put the ornaments on it, and then half decorated the house (since I am hosting Thanksgiving and I didn’t wanna go too crazy – I am a one holiday at a time person). We put the tree up early so the dog gets used to it being in the living room, and pray he doesn’t mess with it lol.

Monday was uneventful. Pretty much went to work and came home to do some house chores.

I had off of work on Tuesday. I went grocery shopping for all the Thanksgiving food I need for the holiday. My parents had to make an unplanned trip up to NJ for a funeral so they came to stay with us for two days.

Wednesday my husband was at a work conference and staying overnight there. I went to work and came home, wiped out from a crazy work day. My parents went to the above mentioned funeral, and then when they got back we went out to dinner.

Thursday was my 21st wedding anniversary. Spent it with the dog since my husband was at the work conference. Life happens lol.

Friday was also uneventful.

Saturday started off with a lazy morning, which was nice for a change. Then my husband and I went to dinner for our wedding anniversary. We went to our favorite fancy Italian restaurant.

Today I went to church and am relaxing as much as possible because this upcoming week is gonna be chaos!

My reading has been less than usual this week….

Currently:

I borrowed Conceal Don’t Feel so I am making it a priority to finish before Thanksgiving. Friends and Liars is an Edelweiss ARC which I hope to finish before the end of the month. I borrowed This Is A Safe Space from Libby.

Just Finished:

Two ARCs and a First Reads backlog book.

Going back to work after having a great week off is a real buzz kill! I’ve been exhausted the second I walked in the front door. Not much went on otherwise, just a lot of relaxing and reading lol.

The kids came home from college to visit for a quick weekend home. They’ll be home for almost a week for the Thanksgiving holiday, but they both haven’t been home in weeks so my husband picked them up after work on Friday.

Currently:

I borrowed Conceal Don’t Feel so I am making it a priority to finish this week, and NYPD Red 8 is an Edelweiss ARC which I should be finish by the middle of the week.

I said I wasn’t going to request anymore ARCs this year, and then I found myself browsing NetGalley one night *facepalm*. Macmillan granted my request of B.A. Paris’ book that will come out in February.

Just Finished:

Both of these will be reviewed up on the blog within the next two weeks.

Finished season 2 of The Sandman. Season 1 was definitely better and you can tell that the show was meant to be longer but didn’t get renewed so they rushed through a storyline to end it all.

I had the week off of work. It was a much needed break! Cleaning the garage, cleaning out our camper, and part of the attic happened throughout the week. My husband went on two hikes (one with our dog Rollo and one solo). I went for a walk on the local trail with Rollo while the husband was on his solo hike. Lots of reading happened too!

Currently:

I am purposely taking my time with Empire of Silence. On a whim I joined a random buddy read through Storygraph for this one. At the writing up of this post I had only read three chapters.
I am also reading an ARC that I am gonna review on my blog right before Thanksgiving. It’s not my typical genre but I am giving it an open-minded try.

I was sent a hardcover copy of The Writer from James Patterson’s Street Team, but haven’t gotten around to reading it. I saw that the audiobook was available now on Libby and decided to borrow it.

The Sunday Salon is a place to link up and share what we have been doing during the week. It’s also a great opportunity to visit other blogs and join in the conversations going on there.

Nothing really happened this week except work, per usual.

Took a crappy Snapchat selfie of me at work on Friday

Halloween was Friday. We don’t get many trick or treaters. I sat in the living room under my Nightmare Before Christmas blanket reading on my kindle, waiting for the doorbell to ring.

I am off of work this entire week, due to the NJEA conference. The weather is supposed to be sunny for the most part- crisp fall weather! I hope to spend a lot of it outdoors, bundled up and staying warm, but outdoors none the less.

Currently:

I borrowed a hardcover copy of All Systems Red from my library, and my hold of The Passengers came in after 22 weeks on the waitlist of Libby. I posted these last week, but actually only read 1 page of All Systems Red before putting it down and getting sidetracked by others books! Also, I am 36% into The Passengers at the time of writing up this post.

Just Finished:

This was a weird audiobook. But weird in a good way for the creepy time of year. It’s not for everyone though.

We went camping in a Nor’easter last weekend! Not our first camping trip in crazy weather (we powered through Hurricane Ernesto, Katrina and Irene) and probably won’t be our last, haha! We had a freaking blast though!!!!!!

Currently:

My reading has been all over the place. Since half of my October was filled with camping or packing for camping, now real life has come back in full force! I’ve been so busy after work that once I have a chance to settle down my brain can’t comprehend reading a book. I’ve ended up watching more TV than I normally do… which means my reading is suffering.

These two are short stories so this is what I’m currently reading/listening to.

Honestly, a whole bunch of nothing happened. The weather has been beautiful here and I want to soak up as much of it as I can! I’ve spent a lot of time in my backyard playing with my dog, and reading.

I started a new job on Friday and I wanted to do as much relaxing as I possibly could before going back to work. As a lunch lady I get the summer’s off, and I am never ready for how quickly the warm months fly by.

Currently:

I am currently reading The Wasp Trap by Mark Edwards. It’s a locked room thriller with a lot of characters. So far I am just rolling with it and seeing how it’s playing out. I am 55% in at the writing up of this post.
I am trying my very best to read my ARCs before their publication date for the rest of the year. This one publishes in two weeks.

I borrowed a physical copy of All The Sinners Bleed by S.A. Cosby from the libray. It’s due back at the end of the month so I better gets to gettin’!

I am listening to The Memory Collectors by Dete Meserve via Libby. I had seen it on Netgalley a few months ago, requested it, but I was denied. I had Libby notify me when it was added to their catalog and jumped on the waitlist. The other day it was my turn to borrow it. So far, it’s holding my interest. I like the multiple narrators, which I think the story definitely needs.

Both of my kids were moved into college by Thursday night. This is my son’s last year so it’s all like old hat to him. But my daughter… this is her first year, and she’s been barely away from me. She became very clingy to me when the pandemic hit and then we really became best friends when she went to high school. We both miss each other so much! We’ve chatted every day she has been gone. Yes, I need to pull back some and let her become the woman she’s meant to be… but she’s my baby girl! They both start classes tomorrow. I pray they have a great school year :)

This weekend it was just my husband and I here at the house. And the dog lol. We literally did barely anything. We did go out to dinner Saturday night because I did not want to cook. Today we have no real plans either. The weather has been beautiful here and I want to soak up as much of it as I can while it’s still here.

Currently:

I am currently reading Bad Date by Ellery Lloyd. It’s a short story that was available as a First Reads choice. I am liking it so far!

I borrowed a physical copy of Thirteen by Steve Cavanaugh from a friend.

I am listening to The Locked Ward by Sarah Pekkanen. This one isn’t really keeping my interest, but I am halfway through so I think I am gonna push though it.

This past week I spent getting both kids ready to head off to college. (I’m probably driving my son to his college as you’re reading this lol). He really only needed to make a small Walmart run to get some drinks, snacks, and minimal school supplies. Today I am helping him set up his dorm room, then plan to take him out to lunch before heading home.

Last week we also made a family trip to the boardwalk and walked the boards. The weather was perfect out, we didn’t even need our hoodies on! Boarwalk snacks are always a treat, and it was nice to just be outside enjoying time with the kids.

Friday my husband finally wasn’t working late so when he came home we had dinner and played board games with the kids (something we love doing as a family).

Currently:

I am currently reading The Deceiving Look by Victor Methos, book 3 in the Shepard & Gray trilogy on my Kindle. I should be done with it before the end of the week.

I borrowed a physical copy of All The Sinners Bleed by S.A. Cosby from my library. I am not that far into the book as of the writing up of this post. Note: this book didn’t get much love this week as I was busy…

I am listening to Forget Me Not by Stacy Willingham. This one isn’t hitting like her other books, and it’s really not doing it for me. I have to decide if I am gonna just push through it so I can put up a NetGalley review or just DNF it.

The Sunday Salon is a place to link up and share what we have been doing during the week. It’s also a great opportunity to visit other blogs and join in the conversations going on there.

I’m enjoying my time off of work this summer. Lots of sitting in the yard reading has been my go to this past week. The weather has been in the high 70s which is perfect for New Jersey.

The only notable thing I did was take my daughter to a concert. We were supposed to go on Thursday. Thursday was a bad storm here and the show was cancelled early in the morning. My husband and I decided to surprise my daughter and take her to the next show (which was in Pennsylvania) so she didn’t miss out on seeing her favorite band in concert. AT THE CONCERT we got Gold Circle tickets through Ticketmaster which means you get to be front area by the stage. There was a group right by the fence and we were right behind them in the middle, it was perfect! The show was amazing of course! THEN two of the band members were hanging around so we went towards them to see if my daughter could say hello to them. Long story short, she was thrown a set list by a crew member while waiting in line, she got a photo with BOTH band members and the lead singer SIGNED her set list. We were literally fan-girl squealing with excitement the rest of the night!

Currently:

I am currently reading The Grave Singer by Victor Methos, book 2 in the Shepard & Gray trilogy. I should be done with it by tomorrow the latest.

I borrowed a physical copy of The Haunting In The Arctic by CJ Cooke. I am into this book and have really gotten a lot of pages read, which is on the rarer side for me when it comes to physical books. I think I should be done with this one by Tuesday the latest.

I am listening to All Good People Here by Ashley Flowers. It was recommended by my library for summer reading, and I just haven’t had a huge chance to listen to audiobooks this week. I’ve really focused on being present for my kids as they’ll be off to college in two weeks.

The Sunday Salon is a place to link up and share what we have been doing during the week. It’s also a great opportunity to visit other blogs and join in the conversations going on there.

I’m enjoying my time off of work this summer. Lots of sitting in the yard reading, floating in the pool, and playing cozy video games.

Mostly I am just getting housework done during the day, and getting both kids all situated for heading off to college at the end of August. It will be my son’s Senior year and my daughter’s Freshman year of college. Empty-ish Nest come September!

My daughter had a Rheumatology appointment, her last follow up for awhile as she is doing great!

The kids have a VBS meeting after church today. My kids attended vacation bible school when they were little kids until they aged out at sixth grade, and have been volunteering since seventh grade.

My puppy Rollo is almost one and a half years old, and I’m absolutely loving watching him grow up and play and learn. He’s my baby! I’m trying to figure out more ways to get him to play and be active during the day (I feel he does a lot of laying &/or sleeping). I’ve been taking him for more walks and got him a new toy so we can actively play together. I was half joking to my husband and was like, “Maybe we can get him an agility course for the backyard”.

Currently:

I am currently reading A Short Stay In Hell by Steven L. Peck. Michael Kist raved about the short story last year (at the 9:38 mark) and my library finally had a copy available for me to borrow through Libby.

I borrowed a physical copy of Prince of Thorns by Mark Lawrence from my library. I wanted to start a shorter fantasy series and after doing some research online, I decided on this one. Plus, I like the cover lol. Also, I am a little confused with the plot thus far, but I am just going with it and I am sure it’ll all explain itself as it goes.

I just started listening to The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner. The audiobook I was listening to before this one was NOT holding my interest one freaking bit. I searched for my favorite narrator on Libby and chose a random audiobook that wasn’t too long.

Just Finished:

I was not ready for the heaviness of this story, but it was such a good one. Jennifer Hillier is a great author! I gave this four stars on Storygraph.

Wednesday was Graduation Day!

Thursday was my last day of work till September!

Friday was all about getting the house and yard ready for the graduation party!

Saturday was the graduation party!

Sunday was my day to recooperate from all the excitement of the week!

Currently:

I started Kill Your Darlings last week, then with everything going on it just sat on my nightstand collecting dust lol. It’s definitely being a priority this week!

I borrowed an ecopy of Lifeguard by James Patterson & Andrew Gross from the library. I am also not that far into it. This is a reread from when it came out years ago.

I am listening to Angels & Demons by Dan Brown, and also annotating a traveling hardcover book copy at the same time. This is a reread from when it came out years ago (and in anticipation for the newest book in the series coming out in September).

Just Finished:

This story has definite And Then There Were None vibes (and even a very small Clue (the movie) reference early on), so while it absolutely started off slow… it got more interesting once the characters were being killed off. I guessed the murderer incorrectly, and did not see any of the twist coming. I like how each character had a different personality and it felt like a real writing retreat (minus the murders lol).

I enjoyed each narrator and am glad they gave each characters chapter their own narrator. It helped keep the story flowing.

Note: I gave this one 3.5 on Storygraph, but marked it as 4 stars on NetGalley because they do not use half stars.

The Sunday Salon is a place to link up and share what we have been doing during the week. It’s also a great opportunity to visit other blogs and join in the conversations going on there.

This past week was soooooooo busy! It was my second to last week of work, so lots of getting the kitchen put away and cleaned up before the end of the school years. I am also getting my house and yard all set up and ready for my daughter’s graduation party. My family is coming up to New Jersey to visit as well.

Had to take the dog to the vet yesterday. He wasn’t putting pressure on one of his back legs and we were concerned. Turns out, joker stubbed one of his toes and it was swollen, causing him pain. He was Rx pain meds and he’s on the mend!

Today is my daughter’s 18th birthday! We are gonna go out to dinner tonight to celebrate. Restaurant of her choice of course.

Currently:

I just started Kill Your Darlings on Friday. I am not far in but I am already intrugued!

I am almost done listening to the audiobook of my NetGalley ARC You Are Fatally Invited. Definite And Then There Were None vibes (and even a very small Clue (the movie) reference early on) but I want to know how it all ends up for these characters. Should be done in a little bit.

Lie In The Tide is starting off slow, and I think I am not really feeling it is because there are a lot of characters and You Are Fatally Invited has a lot of characters too so my brain is overloading lol. You readers all know what I mean! I think I am going to give it one more day and if it’s not drawing me in I’m gonna put it aside and find something else to read.

Just Finished:

Gemma James finally published the latest book in the Zodiac Queen series, Capricorn, and since I am absolutely invested in this crazy story I needed to read it. Best one in the series so far, but check those trigger warnings on this series before getting into it.

I needed a cover with a bathing suit on it, and this Elin Hilderbrand short story was an Amazon First Reads bonus pick sometime last year. I gave it three stars- story was pretty good but the ending reallllllllllllly tanked my rating.

Read another short story from Amazon First Reads titled When We Were Friends. This one was pretty decent for a short read. I could see this one being made into a made for TV movie on Lifetime lol.
